Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of the Buildstats website and the building permit data you buy here. By placing an order you agree to them.

The data

Buildstats files are compiled from public records published by county and city building departments. We normalize and organize those records but do not create them, and we cannot guarantee that a department’s records are complete, current or correct. Data is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind.

Your license

• You may use purchased files within your organization, for any lawful commercial or non-commercial purpose.
• You may publish analyses, maps and products derived from the data.
• You may not resell, sublicense or redistribute the files themselves, or a substantial portion of their records, without a written redistribution agreement — contact us.
• You are responsible for complying with laws that apply to your use, including marketing and privacy laws.

Orders and subscriptions

Payments are processed by Stripe. A full-history purchase is a one-time charge for every permit on file for the region as of the date the file is prepared. A monthly subscription is a recurring monthly charge for a file of the region’s permits dated in the trailing 12 months, delivered each billing period; it renews until you cancel, and cancelling stops future charges and deliveries while leaving delivered files licensed to you.

Refunds

Because files are digital and delivered in full, purchases are generally non-refundable. If a file is not as described on its coverage page, tell us and we will make it right.

Changes

We may update these terms; the version in effect when you place an order applies to that order.
